URINARY INCONTINENCE
One in two women will suffer from incontinence at some point in her life.  This condition is not age defined however only one in four will undergo diagnosis and treatment. Many women never receive treatment because they are embarrassed to discuss the problem with their physician.

The four most common types of female urinary incontinence are:

Stress urinary incontinence is leakage of urine, a small to moderate amount, with physical activity. Such activities can include coughing, sneezing, laughing, standing and lifting among others and is the most common type of incontinence.

Urge urinary incontinence also known as overactive bladder is the unintentional leakages of urine preceded by urge to urinate.

Mixed urinary incontinence is a combination of both stress and urges incontinence.

Overflow incontinence is leakage of urine due to a bladder that is too full.

While these conditions are not life threatening they can certainly have a profound negative effect on a woman’s quality of life. Incontinence can interfere with work and social settings, as well as exercise and sexual functioning. Both non-surgical and surgical treatment options are available; will vary based on the type of urinary incontinence.

PELVIC FLOOR
The pelvic floor and surrounding muscles hold the vagina, rectum, bladder and uterus in place. If the pelvic floor is weak these organs can relax out of their usual position. This condition is known as prolapse. When this occurs, these organs may not be able to function in their normal capacity. At least 30% of women demonstrate some degree of prolapse. One of the most common ailments associated with prolapse is incontinence.

Both non-surgical and surgical treatments are available for pelvic floor conditions.

Testing &Treatment
We offer complex cystometrics performed in the office to determine the nature of the incontinence to guide recommendations for further treatment.

Some types of incontinence can be effectively treated with medications. If surgical treatment is indicated, we are able to perform various procedures including bladder suspensions by either the Burch procedure or transobtorator sling placement using the most current materials available. We may also discuss vaginal surgery to reduce vaginal bulging or prolapse.
